I'd like to start off by apologizing for the absurd amount of time that's elapsed since my last post. I had one hell of a difficult semester, so these last couple of weeks I've been really focused on just finishing up this year. Which, by the way, is mind blowing to me that I'm already a junior in college. I'm still confused as to how this happened? Just getting closer and closer to real life, eeek! Anyways, I absolutely promise to keep up with this better. I plan on getting back into the swing of one post per week.
Now, back to what this post is actually about. This past week was the first week of summer for me and within this week I decided to make some changes in my lifestyle. With the stress of school out of the way, I can focus on me and give my overall being the attention it's been lacking. Basically, I've decided that I want to live healthier. I've never been a huge outdoors-y person. Not that I don't like being outside, I've just never really been into hiking, biking, what have you. That being said, I decided I wanted to be more active, not just to look better, but to feel better. I spent the first few days of summer on an endless Netflix binge and felt so gross about myself that I knew that I had to make some changes or else this was how the whole summer was going to go. So I made the decision that each day I want to spend a good chunk of my time being active. Whether that's going on a hike, going swimming, going on a run with my dog. As long as I'm doing something. I want to be "more fit," so to speak, not for anyone else, but for myself. I think I've lacked confidence for a long time, and I'm quite honestly pretty over it. I don't plan on starving myself on a celery stick a day diet. Or as Emily in The Devil Wears Prada would say, "Well, I don't eat anything and when I feel like I'm about to faint I eat a cube of cheese." I'm just interested in cutting out the crap and unnecessary things. I'm hoping that through these little changes I can see somewhat of a change in myself. Even if it isn't on the outside, because that's not what really matters, but rather, how I feel about myself and my life.
I'm not writing this because I want or expect anyone to care about what I'm doing, instead, I'm writing this because I think it's important each and every one of us realizes that we CAN take control of our lives and we can make changes, no matter how big or small they may be, that really impact our overall situation. I think it's important to realize that when something isn't working for you, whether that be your activity level, stress management, whatever, that there's always a way in which you can take control to make things better. But it has to start with you. Nobody is going to hold your hand. You're the only one living your life, so live it the way you want to. Don't waste time thinking you can't change something that isn't working for you, or being too scared to try. It's all about getting out of that rut and stepping out of your comfort zone.
And with that,
Happy Summer everyone!

ps. I solemnly promise I am not now, nor ever will be, your classic Boulder granola. I will always eat meat, buy my coffee from Starbucks, and never recycle as much as I should.
pss. Here are some awesome pictures from my hike in Palmer Park the other day. How cute is my dog?
